We get it—life is busy and so are you. From managing deployments to data center troubleshooting, you don’t have a lot of time to spare. To cut down on data center planner’s manual tasks, as well as reduce the time it takes to complete said tasks, we have added new automation features in 6SigmaAccess Release 14. This blog focuses specifically on the Release 14 Loading Bay. You can watch this blog in video form here if you prefer.
What is the 6SigmaAccess Loading Bay?
The Loading Bay in 6SigmaAccess is a holding place for items before you put them in your model. It is similar to the Library in that it contains items that you can load into your model; however, the Loading Bay is a collection of particular iterations of Library items, meaning they have specific product details configured (i.e. asset numbers, serial tags, etc.). The user now has the option to create these items and have them ready and waiting for deployment in the Loading Bay.
How to Create an Item in the 6SigmaAccess Loading Bay
You have the option to create individual Loading Bay items or to bulk import assets into the Loading Bay. To create a Loading Bay item, select Create New and choose the appropriate item.

Here you will see options to select device type, manufacturer, etc. to search from our extensive Library of items. After having selected the correct product details, select Search to find your item. If we do not have the item you need in our Library, you also have the option to fill this information out manually and create your own item.
After you have the base item, the Loading Bay feature enables you to edit the item details, including the asset numbers and serial tags.

Bulk Import Assets into the 6SigmaAccess Loading Bay
First, you will need to have created a spreadsheet with the item details marked accordingly.

The spreadsheet should contain descriptors such as model, manufacturer, device type, unique ID, Asset ID, etc. You can include the unique ID of the cabinet (if you know it) or you can simply leave it empty. If the spreadsheet does not indicate the items’ locations in the model, they will be sent to the Loading Bay.

Loading Bay: Reduce Planning Time
The Loading Bay is designed to make planning and deployment easier and more automated by having the specific items you need ready prior to deployment. We believe that these improvements will accelerate your capacity planning process.
