A Data Center Crystal Ball: Using Engineering Simulation to Predict and Correct Airflow/Cooling Problems Before Implementation


Traditional IT deployment planning is based on non-physical assumptions for IT airflow utilization that leads to significant risk and data center capacity and efficiency losses. This session illustrates a new approach to operational planning based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling of the data center that accurately predicts the airflow utilization and cooling performance of operational plans. Calculation and use of the Green Grid Cooling Performance Indicator is featured. This approach can reduce environmental risk and increase capacity utilization and efficiency.
