The tried and tested 6SigmaCAD plug-in module has been substantially extended for Release 5. The existing XML format for import and export of CAD drawings has been superseded by import and export using the more generally available DXF and DWG formats using the AutoCAD RealDWG environment. This means that CAD drawings can be imported from and exported to many more CAD tools without the need for any plug-ins for the CAD tool in question. As well as line drawings, solid definitions of complex parts can now be imported using the STL format. The data can be used both in 6SigmaRoom and 6SigmaFM, to provide a view of the CAD model whilst creating the 6SigmaRoom or 6SigmaManager virtual facility model . The objects representing the CAD data are called CAD planes. The CAD planes are drawn in the background of the 6SigmaRoom or 6SigmaFM Graphical View to enhance data transfer by using it as virtual tracing paper. The link between the CAD data and 6SigmaDC software is dynamic in nature. The DWG file can be updated over time with all viewing options for the CAD planes being maintained. Unlike the term “CAD plane” might suggest, CAD data supports 3D as well as 2D. As well as importing the CAD model to aid in the creation of a virtual facility, the virtual facility can be exported as an AutoCAD DWG file to form the basis of a CAD model or provide additional layers of data to include in the CAD model. |
