Data Center Infrastucture Management Software: A 451 Group Perspective
As datacenters become bigger, denser and more complex, it is clear that the most adaptable, economically sustainable and eco-efficient facilities will be those using advanced data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software.
The three main drivers of investment in DCIM software are economics (mainly through energy-related savings), improved availability, and improved manageability and flexibility. Also, greater use of virtualization and changes in server design will result in increased volatility in power consumption - necessitating better integration of IT and infrastructure, and new investment in management and control software.
The 451 Group provided an overview of the rapidly evolving market for DCIM software. The presentation gave clarity on the business impact of DCIM and how DCIM solutions are evolving toward a common set of objectives. A particular focus was placed on the role played by DCIM software and CFD modeling as a means to close the communication gap between IT and facilities operational practices. The 451 Group sees the closing of this gap as one of the primary motivations to implement DCIM software.
