Outdoor wireless electronics pose a unique challenge from a mechanical/thermal design. Outdoor units such as active antennas, base stations require a robust mechanical design that are somewhat impervious to harsh ambient temperatures and solar radiation, which can be only achieved via a properly sealed chassis.

In addition, the lack of fans inside the chassis means that the design has to rely heavily on conduction, natural convection and radiation - a unique challenge in electronics cooling.
